The BSN second degree option at New Mexico University gives preference to New Mexico residents. The website states there is no waiting list but it is very competitive. It is a 16 month program. What is nice about this school is that they will allow transfer of previous courses that you took up to 10 years ago. Many schools will only allow transfer for courses that were taken in the last 5 years. The completed application deadlines are February 15 and September 15.

Because there are only two schools currently listed as offering the 2nd degree option, consider applying at multiple programs in other states if you seem to have a problem getting into the program in one of the two listed above. This website has a listing of schools and additional details by state.

You must have your prerequisite classes completed or in the process of completion to enter the accelerated nursing program. Each school has different requirements, but you can be sure the program moves at a very fast pace and is very intense. It is not recommended that you try to work while you are taking the program. One college even mentioned that the entire family must be willing to cooperate with your need to focus on the coursework in order for you to successfully complete it.
