Accelerated Nursing Programs in North Carolina

How easy or difficult is it to get into a fast track nursing program in North Carolina? How long will it take and who offers it? What are the application deadlines? How many students do they accept? What else do I need to know to get in?

If you have an unrelated bachelor degree, you can use it to get a second degree to become a registered nurse in North Carolina. Most of these programs can be completed in one year to eighteen months. These programs are highly competitive because registered nurse jobs are in abundance.

The schools that offer the accelerated BSN (bachelor of science in nursing) in North Carolina will all have a little different entry requirements. These will most likely be based on your cumulative grade point average (GPA), prerequisites and time of application. But each college is a little different. The list of colleges and universities offering the accelerated BSN in North Carolina are below.

The Winston-Salem State accelerated BSN is a 13 month option. Each January, 45 students are admitted. You are required to sign a contract to work full time as a staff nurse at North Carolina Baptist hospital for 3 years after completion of the program, so that is something to consider.

Queens University Presbyterian School of Nursing offers the undergraduate program offers the accelerated, second degree BSN option to be completed in one year!

The accelerated BSN at Western Carolina University has moved to a once per year admission cycle. The next available admission cycle is for January 2013. This is also a 12 month track. The ABSN is designed for non-working, full time students.

Dukes accelerated BSN is a 16 month program. Located in Durham, this is an on campus program. You will need a GPA of 3.4 or higher to have the Graduate Record Exam waived. All prerequisites need to be completed prior to enrolling into the ABSN program. Applications are accepted in the fall and spring semesters. July 1 for Spring admission and December 1 for fall admission. Their is a $50 application fee.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill BSN option requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. They have an accelerated BSN option that is six semesters and an accelerated BSN option that is four semesters. They will have 60 credit hours from their previous degree counted toward the BSN.
