Behind every great doctors and physician’s assistants stand respectful registered nurse (RN)s. Regardless of the hospitals people go in the United States, they will inevitably find RNs who will take care of them. In fact, the most of the patients only see doctors briefly. A convenient fact about the Miami Dade College is its four options for applicants to become RNs. They offer two general options for either full-time or part-time students in which the students can choose to enroll in the programs at either Medical Center Campus or Homestead Campus with some on-site experiences at Baptist Hospital. If the student already is LPN, then the student is eligible for the Bridged Option, which is a bit more flexible than the general options. Furthermore, if the student holds a Bachelor’s Degree in any field, then the student can apply for the Accelerated Option. This option is the best among three, but the student must have had 15 credits in natural science/math courses with human anatomy and physiology courses.

For all four programs at Miami Dade College, the student must have completed the prerequisites with a minimum of C and already is a student at Miami Dade College. For the science courses that are counted for the program, no more than 3 D, F, or W are tolerated. The prerequisites in the program include Chemistry for Health Sciences (with Lab), Critical Thinking/Ethics, and Anatomy & Physiology I. There are total of 72 credits in which 42 are for nursing credits. With the Bridge Option, the student can choose to do some courses online. With the Accelerated Option, 30 general education credits out of 72 credits are waived. Regardless of the option they choose, they will be eligible for the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) upon graduation.

People can become RNs at community college as well such as the Florida Community College at Jacksonville, Florida. This community college requires 13 credit hours of prerequisites and a minimum GPA of 2.0. As far as the prerequisite courses are concerned, these include one year of high school chemistry or any college and other courses like Human Anatomy & Physiology I, and Microbiology. Just like the Miami Dade College, 42 credit hours for nursing programs are needed. These credit hours are spent with core courses such as Nursing Technique, Nursing Concepts, and Nursing Care of Children. Eventually, the students will be allowed to take NCLEX-RN once they are finished.
